After horrible food experience at the restaurant, Gordon explores the neighborhood in order to gather intel on what is wrong with the restaurant. He goes to the fire department of Westhampton Beach and meets firemen over there. Upon asking they reveal that food is too fried and greasy. He invites them to dinner service as his guests.

Inspection:

After gathering local intel, Gordon comes back to the kitchen for inspection. Gordon finds moldy food, rotten dishes, raw food stored along with the cooked food. The kitchen is dirty and only clean thing Gordon finds is a cookbook authored by himself. Gordon asks the whole family to join him and he shows them the state of the kitchen, Gordon dons gloves and starts cleaning the kitchen with the rest of the staff.

At dinner service, food does not leave the kitchen for an hour. Invited firemen get food after a long disappointing wait but when they get food, it is cold, fish is not fresh and meatloaf is dry. Chef Brian does not pay any attention to the criticism. Sous Chef Francis drops a chicken wing on the floor and to utter disbelief of Gordon, he put it back in the fryer. When Gordon asks about same he replies - fryer will sterilize that chicken wing.

Next day, Gordon meets with restaurant owner Buddy, who tells him that there is not anything left to put in business and with the current system in place, he cannot keep running the restaurant. He also shows his displeasure with Chef/Son Brian and confesses that if Brian wasn’t his son he would fire him immediately. Closing the restaurant will affect the whole family and it will put everyone out of work.

Gordon then joins Brian in the kitchen and shows him the way to cook shepherd’s pie correctly. Once the dish is ready, he asks every staff member to see the difference in the presentation of old Shepherd’s pie and the new one. Upon tasting, everyone likes Gordon’s version more than the old one and that angers Brian, he heads to the bar. Buddy tries to talk to Brian but he ignores him and walks out. With Brian out of the kitchen, Buddy tries to take charge in the kitchen but fails miserably. He then understands the pressure Brian is in all the times and he finds new respect in what Brian’s job is. Gordon identifies Brian’s issue and responsibilities and vows to help him.

Staff reunites one last time before relaunch and everyone seems confident with new menu and service they need to provide.

There is a local food critic in the queue also which adds up to the pressure. Gordon asks Brian to focus on quality but people waiting for food get annoyed due to wait time. Jason runs here and there to deal with irate customers, people still are waiting for food. Gordon pushes Brian but few of customers start leaving the restaurant including fire department chief.
