In this series premiere, Gordon Ramsay visits Peter’s Italian Restaurant, Babylon, Long Island, New York, a family run Italian restaurant. The restaurant is owned by Tina (younger sibling) but named after her brother Peter. After keeping Gordon waiting for over 15 minutes, Peter does not make a very good impression with his flashy car and high-roller attitude. Gordon, along with Peter arrives at the restaurant to meet the family and is happy to see family involved in the restaurant. At this moment, Peter introduces Ramsay to his friends Jerry and Jerry, the mob.

Food Sampling:

After meeting the family and chef Robert, Gordon sits down for tasting the menu. Gordon orders for the crab cake and lobster ravioli. As first order arrives, Gordon tells waiter Angelo that salad is all rotten and crab cake is not fresh and is cold in the middle. The second order, lobster ravioli is covered with parsley, which when is pointed out, starts a huge fight and shouting inside the kitchen. Peter again shows “He is the boss” attitude when he walks over to Gordon. Peter tells Gordon that chef has taken offense by parsley remark and he is going to defuse the situation, Tina actually stops the fight.

After sampling the menu, Gordon talks with the family face to face and makes them aware of the initial findings. That does not go well as the discussion turns into the blame game for Tina and Peter within few moments.

 

Kitchen Inspection:

The Next day, Ramsay gets in the kitchen early for inspection. He finds rotten food, mold, rotten onions in the kitchen, it is in dismal condition, the freezer is not functional. Upon confrontation with Peter and staff, Peter blames the chef for the poor condition of kitchen and freezer. While Gordon asks staff to help and clean up the place, Robert, the chef shows all pieces of equipment that are not working. The blame is on Peter, that he spends all the money on his lifestyle instead of putting profits and some in upgrading the kitchen. Even after all the issues, Peter roams around with a drink in his hand when all others are busy cleaning the kitchen.

After visiting the kitchen Garden fence everyone in the main problem with the restaurant. Everyone blame Peter for the lack of ownership that leads to an ugly confrontation. For changing the restaurant Peter has to change. On next day, Peter gets a visit from the local debt collector. Peter gets into an explosive fight with the visiting debt collector. When the fight gets over, Gordon Ramsay identifies that Peter is the main problem. Eventually, Peter understands what needs to be done.

When Gordon arrives at dinner service, he notices that Peter is giving away lots of complimentary food and drinks to compensate delays in serving. Gordon talks with Tina, who tells him that Peter takes money all the times, even when the restaurant is struggling to break even.

The next day, Gordon asks Peter and his dad to cook in the kitchen. Gordon asks Tina and her mother to run the dining room. Even after an hour of service, no food has left the kitchen. Non-functioning kitchen and broken equipment are now visible to Peter. Peter asks for a drink and tries to shun away from the situation. Gordon kicks him out of the kitchen.

Relaunch:

Before service begins, Gordon shows new kitchen pieces of equipment, a working refrigerator, the new family-style menu which gets whole staff and owners excited. Peter shows his appreciation by giving Gordon a hug. Guests start to arrive for the dinner service. Initially, the kitchen runs into some delay because the menu is new, Peter cracks under pressure and struggles to manage the food service. Slowly, the pressure eases and kitchen start to prepare meals at a quick speed. Customers start getting food and most of them look happy with the menu changes. Despite few issues initially, whole staff pulls it together at the last moment and relaunch is a success with customers giving all positive inputs.

Peter seems more invested in Kitchen and along with Gordon, the restaurant hosts a social event to get the word out to the community.

What Happened Next?

During Gordon’s re-visit, restaurant looked in nice shape (Link in the resources). Peter was more involved with the restaurant. However, after Gordon’s visit all went downhill. Reviews after Gordon’s visit were terrible, Peter fired most of his old staff and started mismanaging. As Peter went back to his old ways, he ended up closing the restaurant in September 2008.

Local news surfaced that Peter “Peter Pasta” Pellegrino was indeed a gangster(Link in the resources). However, Bonanno crime family, once he was associated with, has disowned him.
