Kitchen Nightmares (US) Season 2 Episode 1: Season 1 Revisited

The first episode of season 2 is dedicated to revisits to the restaurants that Gordon Ramsay saved in the first season. Roughly after one year of the relaunch (rough filming date is March 2008 for the revisit episode), Gordon covers 6 restaurants:

1. Finn McCool’s Revisited:

Gordon enters and meets Buddy in the bar section of the restaurant. Melissa and Jason are also there and they seemed happy. Gordon goes to the kitchen to meet the younger brother and chef Brian. Buddy tells Gordon that the business is up across all boards by 35% and he has started cashing his cheques now. Jason tells that he is happy now as they are paying all the bills now and each day he looks forward to starting work.

Finn McCools Westhampton Beach

Buddy tells Gordon that he had a heart attack a few months ago. Buddy is happy that when he was absent Jason, Brian and Melissa stepped up and covered for his absence. Buddy is now happy that Brian is passionate about the food. Gordon visits the freezer to check if there is any frozen food in storage.

Gordon tastes spring rolls (Due to high demand, they added it in the menu after Gordon relaunched the restaurant), chowder and shepherd’s pie. Gordon is very happy with what they have accomplished.

2. The Olde Stone Mill Revisited:

Gordon meets Dean and Dean though had mixed feeling about seeing Gordon is happy for that is happening with the restaurant after the relaunch. Dean tells that initially the business doubled, but overall year to year he is up 25%. He is now able to pay salaries on time, paid mortgage and is happy with the progress so far.

The Olde Stone Mill Tuckahoe New York

Gordon goes into the kitchen to meet chef Mike and find the funnel he burnt a year ago. Mike tells Gordon that he is pretty happy with the steakhouse and his passion for cooking has come back. Mike tells that numbers are up, business is good, there are reservations in the restaurant and he is getting paid on time. Gordon meets Dean’s wife who tells Gordon that Dean is much relaxed and stress-free and it is such a relief. Gordon introduces Dean to Gina, who on behalf of New York State Beef Council presents a special reward to the restaurant for its contribution to the community.

3. The Mixing Bowl Revisited:

Gordon enters the eatery and meets owner Billy and manager Mike there, the restaurant is busy and there are no coupon and discount signs anywhere. Billy is relaxed, he tells Gordon that business is quite good and after relaunch business has grown 2-3 times. Mike tells Gordon that The Mixing Bowl got listed in top 20 restaurants in the vicinity, everyone is happy with the growth they have seen. Mike shows a picture of whole staff along with Gordon Ramsay posted outside the restaurant that surprises Gordon.

4. Dillon’s Lounge/Purnima Revisited:

Gordon enters the restaurant and meets Andrew (one of the manager) who is much relaxed. He tells Gordon that place is doing good and is in profit now. He credits the success to executive chef Vikas Khanna, who joined the staff when relaunch was done. He has not left the restaurant and has to lead the restaurant in a stable and profitable place. Gordon goes into the kitchen to meet the chef, Gordon notices the difference in the cleanliness now.

Dillon's Lounge Revisited

They all go into the storage/basement and place is spotless. Gordon meets the restaurant owner Mohammed who is happy with current state of the restaurant. Mohammed tells Gordon that the restaurant is bringing in $18-20 K per week, i.e. roughly $1 Million per year and the whole transformation has had a positive impact on everyone. Gordon tries few dishes and is impressed by overall transformation and wishes them good luck.

5. Campania Revisited:

Gordon enters the restaurant and meets Joe’s mother Pat. pat is happy to see Gordon back in the restaurant. There are customers in the restaurant which is a good sign. Pat tells Gordon that business has grown very fast recently and everyone is happy. Gordon meets Joe’s wife Melissa who is happy to see him. She tells Gordon that Joe is a totally changed person and after the relaunch customers have embraced the changes in a positive way. Business is growing rapidly and it is good to see Joe in a relaxed way.

Campania New Jersey Kitchen Nightmares

Gordon meets Joe in the kitchen and they go to storage as Gordon wants to see how it is stocked now. Gordon is pleased to see that it is stocked reasonably. Joe tells Gordon that on groceries alone, the restaurant is saving $5k per month by buying reasonable amounts. Gordon tastes few dishes and is impressed with the taste. Joe tells Gordon that meatballs are the top sellers and people often order hundred of them together. Before leaving the restaurant, Gordon along with Deputy Mayor Joe Tedeschi and Mayor Steve Weinstein present a proclamation on making the best meatballs in New Jersey.

6. Peter’s Italian Restaurant Revisited:

Gordon is not present personally for the revisit but co-owner of Peter’s, Peter tells that business has to be around 30% up. He is more involved with the restaurant now and everything they serve and use in the kitchen is top notch. Customers are happy and he personally is dedicated now, which was not the case earlier.

Tina seemed happy and reports that there is a positive atmosphere and if there are any changes that are due they do it actively. Reservations are up and customers are happy. Due to constant fighting in kitchen old chefs are not in staff anymore and they have a new chef in place, Fernando. Peter speaks highly of Fernando.
